The show is a great variety of Canadian Pacific and Canadian National
steam power
in the mid-late 1950's in Ontario. It was shot by Newton Rossiter,
and he narrates some of it as well as other former railroad employees
who worked many of the engines shown.
This is a priceless program of steam power that has long since

The Denver and Rio Grande Western 2-8-2's hauled revenue freights until 1968 through
the southern Rockies in Colorado and New Mexico. This show includes 8mm footage by Randy

as photographer Maynard Laing and friends head to the prairies to see the
action. Tons of great steam abounds with much of the action around Winnipeg
and especially the Portage la Prairie area where the CN and CP cross at a
diamond, and run through the town a block apart. There is lots of exciting

The massive Yellowstone type 2-8-8-4 locomotives operated by the Duluth, Missabe, and Iron Range railroad in Minnesota were among the
largest steam locomotives to ever run, and in 1958 and 1959 they were still hard at work. When other railroads in the United States were
either entirely dieselized or nearly so, the DM&IR Yellowstones soldiered on for a few extra years. More Details Here
Maynard Laing ventured to Washington's Olympic Penninsula to capture the end of an era, with steam locomotives working the forests
hauling out fresh log trains to the mill. The Rayonier mainline was 45 miles long, and featured several serviceable engines including

In the early 1950's steam locomotives were being replaced rapidly by diesels on most railroads and Northern Pacific was no exception.
Fortunately photographers like Mr. Maynard Laing, of Bellevue, Washington chronicled many of the final days of steam in his area
